Federal task force which was assembled to check out the for profit colleges named one of those which was under investigation was University of Phoenix, a widely accepted, well-known name which was said to have been one of the fourteen (out of fifteen investigated) which was guilty of some sort of unethical behavior.

..

Some of those behaviors reported were use of high pressure sales tactics, recruiting people who had little or no chance of passing the courses they signed up to take, exaggerating the availability of resources (which can be a serious situation for students that absolutely require time to practice on the latest technology in order to be able to pass tests) or in some of the more extreme cases such as one incident where the college counselor told the potential student (undercover agent) to hide a savings account which had over $250,000 in it, another the counselor encouraged the potential student to claim three dependents which did not exist.

..

In one case the college suspended all new student applications until they could do their own in-house investigation.
